Ukai

Inspired by the Japanese style of cormorant fishing, 'Ukai', whereby a cormorant bird is used to fish in rivers. The colour direction takes indigo, khaki and pistachio hues which are then injected with a bold pop of yellow. Silhouettes are inspired by elements of traditonal ukai fishing attire, which have been reworked and reimagined for Dries Van Noten. Prints take inspiration from tradtional Japanese oil paintings, hand painted cormorant birds and basket weave textures, overall to ooze a tactile and hand painted aesthetic.
